The Otavi region

The three towns of Otavi, Tsumeb and Grootfontein make up the so-called Otavi Triangle. In its centre lies the scenic Otavi mountain range. The Otavi Region, usually a green oasis, receives a relatively high annual rainfall with an average of 450mm – 600 mm and has many natural springs. Due to the good rainfall, the region offers excellent opportunities for commercial farming with grain and maize, hence it is often referred to as the Maize Triangle. Unfortunately, a major part of Namibia is currently experiencing acute drought conditions, including the Otavi Triangle.
